Shortwave | Jews and Booze on Shtetl

Every year at the Passover Seder Jews are commanded to drink four glasses of wine.  But what did they do in the 20’s when the sacred juice was forbidden? This week on Shtetl author Marni Davis talks about how Jews -whether they were for or against- managed during the dry season known as Prohibition.

Music by Scott Joplin, Bessie Smith, Wynton Marsalis, Wynonie Harris, Geoff Berner, Jelly Roll Morton, DeLeon, Socalled and Tom Waits.
