Events | Geoff Berner opens for Fanfare Ciocarlia

Geoff Berner at POP Montreal

September 20th – 9pm – Rialto Theatre (5723 Ave. du Parc, at Bernard)

Vancouver-based accordionist and singer Geoff Berner brings his irreverent and politically charged folk-klezmer-punk act to the Rialto on September 20th. Opening for Romanian brass giants Fanfare Ciocărlia
Berner is known for his often satirical and sarcastic lyrics and song titles (including “Half German Girlfriend”, “Authentic Klezmer Wedding Band”, “Official Theme Song for the 2010 Vancouver / Whistler Olympic Games (The Dead Children Were Worth It!)”, and “Song Written in a Romanian Hospital”). He spent time playing in punk bands early on in his music career, and later studied traditional klezmer music styles in Romania. Berner is also known as having run as a candidate for the Green Party in BC several times, as well as running for the satirifical “Rhinoceros Part of Canada” in 2001. The show promises to be a raucous good time.
