The Jewish Public Library presents (More than a) Book Launch with Rebecca Margolis, Jewish Roots, Canadian Soil:Yiddish Culture in Montreal, 1905-1945.

In 1931, ninety-nine-percent of Montreal’s 60,000 Jews reported that Yiddish was their mother tongue. Looking at Montreal’s Jewish community during the first half of the twentieth century, Rebecca Margolis explores the lives and works of Yiddish activists, writers, scholars, performers, and organizations that fuelled a thriving community.

Rebecca Margolis is Associate Professor in the University of Ottawa’s Vered Jewish Canadian Studies Program.
