Shortwave | Odessa Gangster Ballads

Ganovim-loshn (thieves’ language) was the Yiddish sung in the inter-war underworld of Warsaw, Odessa and Istanbul.   Along with their Yiddish gangster repertoire, Orkestar Kriminal has absorbed the Rebetika Mortika hash den anthems of the 1930s Greek underground. They also perform in Khmer, Danish, Romani and Ladino.

And today they’ll be LIVE IN STUDIO SHTETL partying it up with sounds from their upcoming Halloween show helping us celebrate 25 years of independent radio on CKUT.
