Shukar Roma was started in Montreal in 2011, and features acclaimed accordionist Sergiu Popa. Also involved with this collaborative ensemble is “The Super Star of Romania,” composer Dan Armeanca, and Darbouka player Mohamed Raky. They play mostly Balkan and Romanian musics, with influences from Klezmer and other Jewish styles. They have previously played for the sweaty balkan/Roma dance party Balkan Beat Party
