Wanted to bring up a small point about the “Summer Music Special With DeLeon” episode: There is a chance that your listeners have heard Qawwali music before! Some people consider the best Qawwali musician of all time to be a person named Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, from Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nusrat_Fateh_Ali_Khan). Peter Gabriel introduced him to Western audiences by including him in the music for the soundtrack “Passion” to the 1988 movie “The Last Temptation of Christ.” He then was “all the rage” in Western music circles for a few years, included in a lot of musical collaborations… notably making two albums with Canadian guitarist Michael Brook and playing two utterly haunting tracks with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder on the soundtrack to the 1995 movie “Dead Man Walking.”
