Events | Self-Hatred: A Loving Look at a Jewish Tradition

The Mile End Chavurah Salon Series, in collaboration with ShtetlMontreal.com, is very pleased to announce SELF-HATRED: A Loving Look at a Jewish Tradition, a moderated discussion. This event is the fourth instalment in our salon series on Jewish arts, culture and ideas.

Join the discussion at Sala Rossa on Wednesday, April 25th for a lively mutli-media salon that will get us all talking about why some Semites love to self-loathe.

On this subject, have you ever…
Tried to act more ‘waspy’ when eating in public?
Used another word for “Jew” because it sounds too Jewish?
Felt ashamed to tell people you participate in ethnic rituals?
Said your ancestry is “European” or “Mediterranean” or “Middle Eastern” or something else instead of Jewish?
Shushed your parents when they were speaking at a normal volume about Jewish subjects in a public place?
Shushed your parents because they never speak at a normal volume in a public place?
Told your children “don’t advertise”?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then we’ll see you Wednesday night. If you didn’t answer yes, then come on out anyways.
Doors at 7:30 p.m. Salon begins at 8 p.m. Click HERE to register on Paypal ($8 in advance/$10 at the door – includes one free drink).

This event is supported by a generous grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal.
