Congregation Beth-El, in conjunction with One Free World International, proudly presents the Montreal premiere of the international award-winning documentary Freedom Fighter, as part of its Thinkers’ Forum Series.¬†Reverend Majed El Shafie was arrested, tortured and sentenced to die in Egypt because of his faith. Escaping to Israel, he was imprisoned until his eventual release a year and a half later. Today, Reverend El Shafie lives in Canada and fights for those persecuted around the world. This documentary follows the efforts of Reverend Majed El Shafie and his organization One Free World International over a four-year period as he travels on fact-finding missions to investigate and document human rights abuses against religious minorities around the world, focusing on Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and China, as well as on the rise of anti-Semitism. The screening will be followed by a question and answer period led by Reverend El Shafie.
