Shortwave | David Bezmozgis on Shtetl

Latvian-born author David Bezmozgis immigrated to Toronto at six years old with his family in 1980.  He did his undegrad in English lit. at McGill, was named one of the top 20 writers under 40 by The New Yorker in 2010, directed a feature film,  wrote the award-winning Natasha & Other Stories– a heart-wrenching, naughty and hysterical collection about Soviet Jews in the suburbs of Toronto, and was recently shortlisted for the Giller prize for his first novel which follows the Krasnansky’s – three generations of Russian Jews on their journey from Latvia to The Free World.

Tune in for our conversation plus lots of excellent Soviet tunes from De Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Naekhovichi, Rotfront and the last song goes to Lhasa.
